Sunny days here in CA

Today was much better than yesterday...by far. I actualy got the cake finished in time! And i was able to successfully shell the edge! So i was pretty happy. Tomorrow, i'll be decorating it. HOpefully that will work out great! Actually, it should. I was able to get my chocolate fans done. I figured out how to make it so that I was able to ake themm just how they are supposed to be. I have to make sure i have thicker chocolate.

Traffic was a bear todayk! It was all of the rubberneckers. If they wouldn't look at the accidents...traffic wouldn't slow down.

Now i'm watching paul blart mall cop. Wow. So sad, but hilarious as ever.

Things I learned today:

1.) Philipinos eat with a fork and spoon, instead of a fork and knife.
2.) Patience is key to everything.

Square edges with a touch of choco buttercream, much?

Today...

Ahhh today...

Today wasn't the funnest of days. So yesterday i didn't finish the cake i was working on, because it was a square. So today i didn't finish it until just before I left, and that was because i had help!

I don't know if i ever want to see another square cake ever again. haha. Or chocolate butter cream. I will, but i don't wanna. I will master them eventually, right?

I ended the day an hour and a half later than i was supposed to. Just because i didn't want to let myself go without finishing. Just because i can't do that. I was so mad at myself too! And frustrated. I suppose everybody has bad days right?

Things I learned today:

1.) Chocoalte buttercream gets everywhere.
2.) Coffee saves lives

FUN FACT #10: Avoid driving in CA in the rain, the roads weren't meant for it.

I'm square, you square?

Today was my first early day. Not too bad! I will get to be back home at bout 4:30! Woot, eh? I say so, cause I might get to cook dinner every now and again!

I got the priviledge of doing a square cake, too. That is very tough! I ended up being mad at myself cause i didn't finish my cakes today! Squares are harder than they look. THe butter cream will give you fits the whole time.

Other than all of that, today was pretty simple. Oh, we did have a surprise visit from the health inspector. That was interesting. She wasn't very nice. She was more strict than i have seen before! Oh well, though.

Things I learned today:

1.) Squares are hard
2.) don't microwave mascarpone cheese too long
3.) I can survive

FUN FACT #9: What don't kill you, makes you stronger. :P

Crash Course...

So today seemed like it was going pretty chill. We put stickers on the backs of business cards, washed dishes and plated up the tastings. Then...

Margie gets a call. The guy that had just picked up the cake, delivered the cake. But...the cake was supposed to go to the venue tomorrow. Not today! It was a wedding cake! and the couple called and told her, um..what is the cake doing here? So, we all had a freak out moment and then...

She sent me and the other intern, on our 5th day at the shop, to go rescue the cake! We mentally just flipped out! They trusted us with a 3-4 ft. tall WEDDING cake! So we cleared out the back of Therese's Hatchback Honda Fit, flattened the seats, and loaded the cart. AND...

We successfully got it back! Woot! We didn't destroy a single flower! And Margie was happy we got it back. We are now hired deliverer's hahhaa...

What i learned today:

1.) Californians roll their 'r's
2.) Expect the unexpected

FUN FACT #8: Sunshine will make you happy.

Day four.

SO today was buttercream shells. Like, the little rims you see in bakeries. That, my friends is way harder than it looks. I did learn a tip though: Count. If you count, it helps! It really does, trust me!

I also got to put little adorable flowers on the Monster's inc. cake! That cake ended up looking so adorable! It was for a 1st birthday, kinda sad, wouldn't you say? I don't know, I think that my child won't have a special cake like that. Well...i'm not there yet am I? ;)

Whenever Margie has a job for me and Therese, she says, "Interns! I have a job for you!" It is most always well...always something she doesn't want to do. So we made beads. Fondant beads. Wasn't that bad. We kinda thought it was cool! haha.

We also Sold some stuff today...which got us a whoppin' $2.50 each in a tip! Can we say coffee? I think so.

Things I learned today:

More buttercream or no?

So today, my cake turned out a little better. haha. I paid extra attention on keeping my spat straight!!

I also got to do acetate on chocolate! that was really cool. It transfers to the chocolate with a patter. So super cool! The way it transfers is strange, because it won't come off on your hands, just the chooclate!

I also got to paint more. Did you know that color matching is kinda hard? Finally did it and got the lid painted on the cake.

I have officially trained Tori! haha...She doesn't bark so bad when i come in anymore. She knows that i won't pet her until she is quiet.

Things i learned today:

1.) you can put metal in the microwave, no problem
2.) Keep your spatula straight.

FUN FACT #7: Hitting the snooze button isn't a good idea.

Day Two

Ahhh...work. So much fun. Hard on the feet if you forget to have a rubber mat, but fun. From playing with fondant, to washing dishes...it is still fun.

So I worked with chocoalte buttercream today. That is quite different than regular old white butter cream. So i had to do the Icing and then i had to scrape it. While scraping it, we couldn't figure out why it kept on being sloped. Then all of a sudden Kristin, another intern, says, "Give that to me."
HOlds it up and it is bowed. Yea, Trying to level a cake witha bowed scraper isn't very easy.

So, I switched and everything went fine after that. Haha. Then i got to color some fondant and paint. Did you know that food coloring stains eve your hands? I have blue nails! haha. So awesome.

Things I learned today:

1.) Apply even pressure.

So, today was fun. I got to fill my first cake! I did a Triple Berry cake. So super delicious looking. Three different mousse's in it, and fresh berries.

There is one more intern that I'm working with. She is awesome. Super duper nice, and we went to the same school! Well, her's was in Hollywood, and mine in Seattle. But, still!.

So we got sent on a mission, to get lunch, blackberries and raspberries. It only kind of turned into an adventure. haha. Kind of. We did make it back though!

The next few months are going to be so much fun. I will know all about cakes when I'm done. It will be awesome!

We tried out our church today. That was awesome! I have Pastor Ray to thank for that :) It was just like home. So, if you ever come to San Diego, go to Grace Community of San Marcos. Very amazing worship and stuff.

Then when we got back EVERYBODY was here. It was loads of fun. I made spaghetti for about 30 people. I had made those chocolate chip cookies the night before. But, they were gone before noon today! I made two batches! Boys eat allot. Guess i'll be making more soon haha.

Today was the day that we all went on field trips! Dondi and his family went to Disney Land, and we first went to Leo Carillo's Ranch!A super cool place! Great places to take pictures and stuff.

Then we went to the beach, that was so much fun! There were sea anemones, and Mr. Brady was scared of them! The cutest thing you will ever see is a little boy scared of sea anemones! He was squealing he was so scared. I did actually touch one, because Clay made me...only because of that.

Then we went to the pool..now that was an adventure! Mandy and Chloe tried to dunk me several times. haha. Talk about hilarious!

After all of that adventure, we all came home and we had our dinner and I made cookies. Nothing is cuter than a 4 year old coming up to you and with an already chocolate chippey smile asks you," can i have another one?" Those cookies aren't going to last long whatsoever.

So much adventure...

Today was a blast! We went to the San Diego Zoo!

We had fun just wandering around the zoo. There were many different animals than what we have in, you know, Point Defiance Zoo. There were ones that I think should be called the Zebra/Horse/Donkey/Cow. It is so funny looking!

We watched them working with the Elephants, too. It was funny because they treated them just like they would horses. The way they commanded them and everything.

Then we met Jake and his wife and kids. That was VERY fun! Payton and Luke are sweethearts. Well..okay..Payton has allot of energy, but she is just mostly brave. Kind of like Christina!

Luke is just cute as can be. He is so funny! He told us girls that we were big, as we ate BBQ ribs.(they were delicious, btw.)His daddy turned to him and said, "Hey! You don't say that to girls! You just say, you are taller than me!"

not!

Our drive was gorgeous! I was in fetal the majority of the time, so it kind of sucked, but oh well. The view was amazing. LIvermore has rolling hills and cows and gorgeous windmills and stuff.

When we were going through LA we didn't get to see the Hollywood thingy, but we did see: Disneyland, Magic Mountain and well..LA was exciting in itself.

So my mom got up this morning and wasn't careful to be quiet. Infact, she slammed the microwave and stuff( i find it hilarious!).
